Yesterday, Wednesday, 22nd May, the Holy Trinity Community gathered in the hall and participated in the 2024 National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS).
Aura Parker welcomed us all, then read aloud her book ‘Bowerbird Blues’…
Bowerbird Blues stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for (you guessed it) BLUE! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower – a mix of natural and unnatural objects – attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined…Love xx
We finished up the NSS with some fabulous bowerbird activities which included the kids racing around the hall using a pair of tongs to collect blue Mentos and we then pinned the blue lollies to the bowerbird’s mouth. It was hysterical and very loud. We also watched a short bowerbird information clip and found out that there is actually a Satin Bowerbird living in Curtin.
Thank you to all those who wore blue and brought in a small bird to hold, the kids looked great, and the stuffed birds made us all smile.
This year there were 2 341 490 registered participants in the NSS, from over 59,088 locations. Every year the event numbers increase by 1000’s.
At the conclusion of the event, classes went back to their rooms and completed a range of activities based on the book.
