Zoo Provocation

We continue to observe the different ways that children are making connections between their experience of the zoo visit and thier developing ways of thinking. The beauty of inquiry learning is that all three classes participated in the zoo visit, however all are exploring the key concepts in different ways - a true sign that the learning is guided by the group, reflecting the needs and interests of the children.

Black Cockatoo class had a chance to reflect on the zoo excursion, by viewing photos and sequencing several events that took place on the day. The children were then invited to draw pictures of these key events, before verbally recounting the excursion using words such as 'firstly', 'then' and 'lastly'.

Rock Wallaby class were shown a collection of items, as another provocation. How can we sort these items? Collaboratively. the children identified different characteristics and grouped them accordingly. Sorting objects is an important mathematical skill that requires children to make observations and identify similarities and differences. To support this development, our children are encouraged to be involved in sorting objects at home.

Working Bee

Throughout our enrolment period, we welcomed a large number of prospective parents into our ELC. When taking them around our learning environments, many were impressed with and commented on our outdoor spaces. We too, love our playground.

ELC and school community members are warmly invited to join our working bee on Saturday 31 August 2024, from 9:30am.

We will have sand and tanbark to wheelbarrow in, as well as some painting to be done. ...and if that is not your thing, perhaps you are a handy baker and could provide something for the morning tea break?

Be sure to bring along your gloves, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows (if you have them). We look forward to seeing many little and big hands working together to make a difference.

Hats, Hats, Hats

Our SunSmart policy states that all children and staff are required to wear hats when outside from August to May each year. Please ensure your child has a clearly labelled hat each day and support them in applying sunscreen when they arrive in the morning.
