“Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I assure you that whoever dos not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”
Dear Parents, Staff and Students,
The above quote from the Gospel of Mark was shared with us today at our Opening School Mass, where our Year 6 students were presented with their leadership badges. Last Sunday at Mass, Fr John talked about our identity being developed in our sense of community. It is wonderful to be part of a community here at Holy Trinity where all identities are recognised, nurtured and included. This was particularly evident in the huge number of families who joined us last Friday night for our Parent Information Night and welcome BBQ. A big thank you to our P and F helpers who organised the food and refreshments for all of us.
Another great opportunity to gather in community and support one another was the Dr Kristy Goodwin information night held on Tuesday night. We had over 80 parents in attendance, and they were given mush useful guidance and insight into navigating our children in the digital world. We have purchased a copy of Dr Kristy’s book which will be available for parents to borrow from the library.
To help ensure all in our community are informed, on Friday night we launched our new school App, where you will be able to find calendar dates, newsletters, information and notices from your smart phone. It will also have a link to our new website that we are currently building. I have attached instructions on how to download this to your phone at the end of the newsletter, if you have not already done so. Please note that under the “Manage Tab” you need to choose which groups in our school you would like notifications about (otherwise you will not receive any notifications). We are hoping that by Week 5 we will be using this to send our newsletter and therefore, will no longer be sending this or notifications via email or Skoolbag.
Parent Partnership Meetings
These meetings are an opportunity for you to share your knowledge of your child and some hopes and aspirations for them in 2018. It is also an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s classroom teacher and begin a dialogue that will continue throughout the year. We believe that Parent Partnership Meetings will ensure the best possible start to the year and establish strong school/home partnerships. The 10 minutes sessions will be available between Monday 5th – Wednesday 7th March 2019 (Unless otherwise specified on the timetable) and are for all children from our ELC up to Year 6. Prior to this meeting, we ask that families complete the Parent Partnership Form that will go home next Friday (Week 4) with your child’s Interim Report. We ask you to complete this form in preparation for this discussion.
Tomorrow morning we will be having a guest speaker, Simon Carroll, come to morning assembly and talk to the children about an organisation called Global School Partners. As part of our Christion Outreach Projects for 2018 and beyond, Holy Trinity School and ELC will be partnering with a Kenyan school, Evaland Hekima Academy. With this project we will be raising money to help this school community become self-sustainable. You are all welcome to come and hear Simon speak in the morning. GLOBAL SCHOOL PARTNERS
Before I go, just a little “take-away” from Tuesday night’s presentation:
“It is vital that we protect and value relationships in the digital age…..Learning how to self-regulate and deal with our emotions is a critical life skill. It’s a skill that children only learn from experience. Children literally need to experience emotions first-hand in order to learn how to respond in socially appropriate ways. ” Dr Kristy Goodwin
I look forward to seeing you all at our P and F movie night next week, if not before,
