OPENING MESSAGE FROM OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
On Wednesday the Church celebrated the memorial of St Martha. As a disciple of the Lord, who is often remembered for the 'complaint' she made to Jesus about her sister leaving her to do all the serving? Jesus replied to her, "do not be worried and anxious". In his response Jesus is inviting us to turn to him and share our worries and anxiety with him. In this way we are reminded of what is important.
The fruit of Silence is prayer.
The fruit of Prayer is faith.
The fruit of Faith is love.
The fruit of Love is service.
The fruit of Service is peace.
To all in the Holy Trinity Community,
Week 2 has been an excellent week here at Holy Trinity, helped by the beautiful rain on Monday, followed by the bright, sunny days after crisp, cool starts. With so much to be grateful for, Semester 2 is shaping up to be an exciting time, filled with the return of many wonderful events, albeit in slightly new ways, including class assemblies, the sacramental programs and fundraising for our Global School Partner (GSP), to name just a few and, as always, our unrelenting focus on quality learning and teaching.
A shared commitment
A key component of ensuring quality learning and teaching in a PYP school, lay in the shared commitment the community of learners holds.
For me, a community of learners’ means that everyone involved in the life of our school is engaged and valued. We all work together to align learning, activities and events with the school’s vision and purpose. Our community of learners, demonstrate attributes of the learner profile, such as caring, principled and communicator, to strengthen these relationships. In this environment, all students are able to learn, grow and reach their full potential as IB learners.he sense of shared responsibility and distributive leadership provided by our community of learners allows everyone agency - voice, choice and ownership.
This week, I’d like to share with you some of our community partners who actively support our school.
Last term we saw a fabulous welcome back to our Holy Trinity Tuckshop. It has been so wonderful to have our senses tantilised by the new fresh menu. If you have not checked out the delicious treats available, please go to Qkr!
Great news for Term 3 is that "Take home" dinners are coming! We are excited to be making take home dinners available to Holy Trinity families. While we will start off small in this space, over the term we hope to use your feedback to develop and grow this service. Keep your eye on Qkr! to see the available meals for next week. Meals will be frozen in biocane packaging, suitable for composting. Meals will primarily packaged in serves of 4.
Thanks to everyone who has signed up to help in the tuck shop so far. We still have spaces available so if you are able to assist please click this link.

A big thank you to Alicia and the team of volunteers working each week at the canteen. Each term, proceeds from the canteen are donated back to the P and F. So those both purchasing and volunteering with Alicia, are also helping to fund raise money for our school!
Over the years The Athlete’s Foot have formed a great ongoing relationship with our school. Within this time, you may have become aware of the Athlete’s Foot School Rewards Program. With this program, for every pair of shoes purchased from a student attending Holy Trinity, The Athlete’s Foot donate $5 back to our school.
Yesterday, Rachel from The Athlete’s Foot presented to some of our Year 6 Leaders, the donation that has been accumulated from our Back to School 2019 Period. We were thrilled to receive a cheque for $1000.
We whole heartedly thank The Athlete’s Foot and ask you to continue to utilise their expertise when buying school shoes/sneakers.
Becoming a Rebel Member or linking your Rebel Membership to help
Holy Trinity
Recently we were able to purchase over $2,500 worth of sports equipment for students to use at lunchtime and during sports lessons. This is made possible because when you spend money at Rebel, Holy Trinity get money from Rebel to spend in the store.
If you are a member of Rebel, next time you are in the store can you please register to link your account to Holy Trinity? If you shop at Rebel and are not a member, next time you are in the store can you please sign up as a member, it is free, and link your account to Holy Trinity.
- The new sports equipment is great and will benefit everyone at all times, if it is taken care of properly and returned. (Emma P)
- The new sport equipment is high quality and is really good to use at lunch and recess. (Miles B)
- The new sports equipment is awesome. We now have new basketballs and soccer balls that do not go flat as quickly. New balls = more grip which will help with complex basketball skills and lower primary when throwing and catching. (Sienna T)
- Everyone will enjoy playing with the new equipment. We need to make sure it is taken care of and put back where it was found. Thanks again for taking your time to buy and supply us with new equipment. (Maya M)
Please contact Mrs Punyer if you have any questions about this.
We ask that you keep the Long Family (Maeve 5/6) in your prayers following the recent death of their grandmother.
With every best wish for a holy and peace-filled week ahead with your beautiful families,
Katie

Thank you to all parents and carers who joined us for the Parent Information Night (via Zoom) last night regarding the upcoming Sacrament of Confirmation. Please ensure you register your child via Qkr! As soon as possible, as we hope to hand out the workbooks on Friday at school.
A reminder that the children will be presented to the community at one of the Masses between now and the Sacrament, see link below that will allow you to register. Also – when you arrive, please ensure you let Fr John know that you have a candidate to present to community, so he knows to introduce your child to the Parish.
Mass Has Returned!
Due to the recent easing of restrictions, Fr John has now begun celebrating Masses once again. All Mass times will remain the same, but due to social distancing measures, all Masses will be celebrated at Holy Trinity, Curtin for the time being. There is a limit of 100 people that can attend each Mass, and the Parish will accept booking online (Trybooking.com, search Transfiguration Parish), or click here or via a phone call to the office.
Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
Next Thursday is the Feast Day of our Parish, the Transfiguration of the Lord. We would normally gather with our friends at Saints Peter and Paul to celebrate the richness of our shared Parish, however due to current restrictions this will not be possible. Alternatively, we will celebrate on Thursday at school, and will look to find a time later in the year to come together.
Parish Youth Group
This Sunday, 2nd August, will be the first Parish Youth Group for 2020. The group will be facilitated by our Youth Ministers Grace and Maddie. The group will meet at the Parish Centre at Curtin, from 4:00-5:30pm. All students in years 5/6 are welcome to come along. Standing behind difficult decisions

Johan and Harry were both suspended from school for a day after willingly watching a schoolyard fight. Their school had a zero-tolerance policy toward fighting and believed that those who watched a fight were as complicit in the conflict as those engaged in the fighting.
The reactions of both sets of parents to the boys’ suspensions differed greatly. Johan’s parents supported the school’s actions and made the necessary changes to their work schedules to accommodate the suspension. Privately, they thought that the suspension may have been harsh, but as they agreed with the school’s zero tolerance approach to violence, they knew they had no option but to accept the suspension. They counselled their son against similar behaviour in future and made sure his time away from school was spent doing schoolwork.
Harry’s parents weren’t quite so supportive. Thinking that their son’s suspension was unfair, they contacted the school’s principal asking to have the suspension removed. The principal listened to their concerns however she didn’t remove the suspension. She reminded Harry’s parents of the reasons behind the school’s zero tolerance approach to fighting and urged them to support of their policy. Disappointed but obviously not deterred, Harry’s father took time off work to take his son on a fishing trip on the day of the suspension. This action showed little regard for the school’s efforts to encourage a culture of respectful relationships, as well as scant respect for the principal’s authority.
Make the most of learning moments
Both sets of parents thought that the suspension of their sons was harsh. However, only one set saw the situation as a learning experience for the son. Johan’s parents discussed with their son the place that bystanders play when violence breaks out. They reinforced the message that although it may take courage to stop a fight or bring it to the attention of teachers, it’s these sorts of actions that constitute positive leadership.
Harry’s parents couldn’t see past the injustice of the suspension and missed a great opportunity to teach their son any number of lessons. These include what he may do next time a similar incident occurs, how he might respond when he sees someone being bullied or even how to nip conflict between peers in the bud before it escalates. There are many discussions they could have had with their son due to the suspension. From an educative perspective, this was an opportunity missed.
Trust the process
Arguably, the bigger issue in this story is that just as Johan’s parents did, we parents need to trust the processes that teachers put in place at school, even when we don’t always agree. Family-school partnerships are strongest when parents stand behind the difficult decisions that teachers make, even though the wisdom behind them may not be immediately evident. Sometimes, we all have to stand back and trust a process that’s been in put in place, particularly when it’s been implemented after a great deal of thought and diligence.
