Welcome Message from the Principal
Last weekend we celebrated the Ascension of the Lord, assuring us that the risen Jesus who was taken up into heaven, is still very close to us. We are called to recognise the signs of his presence in the goodness, love and forgiveness of community. The ascended Jesus is not an absent Jesus.
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Week 5 and the middle of Term 2 already! As well as the term moving quickly, so too is winter! There also seems to be more sickness around in the community, and unfortunately, a shortage of relief teachers. Can I please remind families to not bring students to school if they are displaying any cold or flu symptoms, or have been sick the night before.
Catholic Education has had some limelight recently in the media, particularly around the future of St Bede's, due to the new funding tool and issues concerning future funding cuts from governments for Catholic Education. Let me please assure our community that although our school's direct measure of income is high, we have substantial enrolments that continue to increase, thus securing our viability well into the future.
Next week you will receive a link for our school survey. This survey will help us to identify what is working well and areas for improvement. Please note that this is a new survey from a different company than the one Catholic Education has used in previous years. The timing of this survey is also earlier- we have in the past, sent this to parents in third term. I encourage all of you to participate in this survey so we have a good representation of our whole community. Students in the upper grades will also complete their own survey in class, as will our staff. The survey being sent next week will be open for your responses for around two weeks. Detailed information about this will be included in the survey . As in past years, we will use this information, along with other data, to identify focus areas for our three year strategic plan, and our 2022 Annual Plan.
We are still in Enrolment period until the end of May across all Catholic schools in our diocese. Can I please remind families that all enrolments are completed online through a link on our website, and that siblings need to be enrolled, even if they are currently in our ELC.
Finally, I would like to thank all in our community who continually support our school and each other in varying ways. This is particularly evident in the many roles people have committed to on both the School Board and the P and F. It was wonderful to see a great example of this last week with our athletics carnival at Woden Park. The amount of parents who volunteered and supported our staff and students on this day was incredible!

An Update From our P and F President
Mother’s Day stall
A huge thank you to the wonderful team of fathers who lead the Mother’s Day Stall this year and a special thanks to Mark Bauer for co-ordinating everything!
The P&F would also like to thank Cheryl Hendy for organising an amazing donation of gifts for us to use. These lovely presents contributed significantly to keeping costs down and increasing our donation to L’Arche, the beneficiary of the Mother’s Day Stall.
L’Arche is a local charity, who provide people with intellectual disabilities the support they need to lead fulfilling and empowered lives. P&F is proud to be sending $666 to L’Arche and we thank the school community for their support of the Mother’s Day Stall which enables us to contribute to this very worthy cause.
It was terrific to see huge smiles on the faces of the kids and I think they took great delight in having a ‘secret’ gift for Mother’s Day. The P&F would also like to thank all the teachers who helped our children produce beautiful Mother’s Day art and stories.
If there were any issues with your Mother’s Day gift, please get in tough with Jenny at htpspfpresident@gmail.com to discuss. We did our very best to ensure there was no duplication between siblings but it was a tricky task so please let me know if you are disappointed so I can fix it! If you have general feedback about the Mother’s Day Stall, we are also receptive to hearing your views. I encourage you to get in touch otherwise I will be left to assume we did a great job and everyone was happy.
We are looking to recruit a dad to take over the Mother’s Day Stall for next year, so if you are interested in taking on this role, please get in touch with Jenny at htpspfpresident@gmail.com. The new Mother’s Day Stall Co-ordinator will have Mark (the current mastermind) by their side next year to show them the way – we promise not to throw our new recruit in the deep end!
Class Co-ordinators
An enormous thank you the network of Class Co-ordinators, led by Kim Beaumont, who baked an extraordinary number of green cupcakes for Earth Hour. These cupcakes were requested by teachers to support student learning about ‘Earth Day’. I’ve been told they were delicious.
Class Co-ordinators have been communicating with their respective classes via email and WhatsApp so we hope all families are feeling connected and in the loop. If you don’t know who your Class Co-ordinator is, please email Kim at kimmiebowie@gmail.com and she would be happy to make introductions.
Cookbook
The Holy Trinity Cookbook 'Feast' is a beautifully bound coffee table book put together by some amazing parents from our school, with professional photos (by a Holy Trinity parent) and amazing recipes all contributed from our school community. Each recipe has been tested in the Holy Trinity test kitchen (aka Briony the cookbook coordinator's kitchen). Let the Grandparents and the Grandkids loose in the kitchen, making scrumptious food and amazing memories.
We only have few left so jump onto QKR (under Holy Trinity P&F) and purchase your copy of The Holy Trinity Cookbook - 'Feast' before they are all gone! All sales of the cookbook contribute to P&F fundraising.
Tasting Night
As announced last week, the P&F is planning to hold a ticketed event on the 19th June exclusively for grown-ups. Tickets are now on sale and we are delighted to see how many teachers, parents & friends have already purchased. It will be a great night of socialising with friends, so I encourage you to buy tickets on QKR (under Holy Trinity P&F) to secure your spot. All sales from the Tasting Night contribute to P&F fundraising.
Tuckshop
Just a quick reminder the tuckshop is currently being managed by the school (not the P&F) so if there are question about missing, incomplete or inaccurate orders, please direct your enquiries to Cath at cath.day28@gmail.com.
The P&F does however provide the volunteers so if you are able to help-out please consider signing-up because the tuckshop really needs more helpers! The tuckshop operates Wed, Thurs, Fri every week between 9:00-11:30 each day. There will be a Tuckshop Manager on every shift so no need to worry about being overwhelmed with responsibility. In fact, we think you might even have some fun and meet some new parents so please consider giving it a try.
If you are able to assist, please sign-up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4FAAA623ABFBC16-tuck
If have any questions about volunteering, please call or text Tuckshop Co-ordinator Patricia Micalos on 0400 019 226.
P&F Meetings & Feedback
The P&F meets each term on Wednesday of Week 4 and Week 8. All parents are welcome to join these meetings. If you would like to be added to the contact list for these meetings, please get in touch at htpspfpresident@gmail.com
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, then please feel free to get in touch at htpspfpresident@gmail.com

On time, every day

During the current COVID-19 pandemic parents are rightfully urged to take a cautious approach and keep children and young people at home if they show symptoms of the virus.
It’s a balancing act if you’re a parent as one the most important things you can do to ensure your child has a bright future is to make sure he or she goes to school every day—and gets there on time. It sounds simple, but it’s true. The correlation between school attendance and children’s achievement levels is well established. The more time kids spend at school, the more likely they are to experience school success.Of course, most people know this intuitively, yet school absenteeism is a huge problem in Australian schools.
According to a report by the Australian Curriculum and Assessment authority nearly 13 per cent of Australian students are missing at least one year of schooling by the time they reach year 10. In today’s highly competitive world, this rate of absenteeism is alarming, putting our kids at a distinct disadvantage.
Current research shows that mornings for most children are the most productive time of the day, with 10.00am the peak period for productivity. When children arrive late and take time to settle as they inevitably do, valuable learning time is lost.
It’s reassuring to know that you can maximise their chances of future success just by making sure they turn up to school every day. And, of course, regular school attendance also helps kids prepare for the workforce, where it will be expected that they turn up each day work-ready. The real world is unforgiving of those who stay away with no excuse.
As a parent:
- Commit to sending kids to school every day
- Make sure kids arrive at school and class on time
- Inform the school when they are away, sending medical certificates and other evidence of genuine absence
- Follow current COVID-19 health guidelines and recommendations
- Consider catching-up on missed work
- Make kids who are away stay in their bedroom, which is where unwell kids should be

Athletics Carnival
Last Friday our school participated in our annual Athletics Carnival at the Woden Athletics Park. The carnival was a wonderful opportunity for students from Kinder to Year 6 to participate in a range of events and share in the school spirit. Thanks again to the staff who helped organise. And a very big thank you to all the amazing volunteers who came along and supported staff to run events and activities. We look forward to once again including the ELC in the 2022 carnival now that we understand the layout of the venue and event.

Rebel Sport
We are very lucky to receive money for our school every time a linked account makes a purchase at Rebel. These funds go towards sports equipment that students use in the playground and during sports lessons.
If you are a member of rebel, next time you are in the store can you please register to link your account to Holy Trinity? If you shop at rebel and are not a member, next time you are in the store can you please sign up as a member, it is free, and link your account to Holy Trinity.

Students celebrating their birthdays this week: Week 5: Spencer P, Alice McC, Celine T & Mrs. Rose Lee |
It’s been so long, we’re glad to be back!
School vacuuming is here again. After a COVID pause last year and a spluttering start this year, the vacuum roster kicks off next Wednesday.
Thank you for all those who volunteered. We have six teams rostered on a Wednesday fortnightly basis for the rest of the school year. Your team leader will be in touch when it’s close to your turn.
This is a valuable, long-running service to the school community. And a simple way for parents to make a contribution, demanding only a couple of nights each year.
The first team is as follows:
Greg Bayada 0405 219 884
Emma Spear
Tom Green
Ben Williams
Justin Hooper
Thanks,
Paul Osborne (Vacuum Coordinator and Year 5 Dad)
