Welcome Message from the Assistant Principal
On Sunday 30th May, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. It is the day we celebrate the greatest mystery of all – the Holy Trinity! Tomorrow, as a school, we will also be celebrating this great Feast Day of the Holy Trinity.
God is so great that Jesus taught us to understand God as three persons in one being who is God. As we try to understand this mystery, Jesus taught us the greatest lesson of all … GOD IS LOVE and that God wants us to be a part of this love. God has given us the responsibility to proclaim God's love to everyone in the world and in this way we can help to make the world, the place God created it to be. We can do this by living and loving as God’s family and, we show God we want to be in God's family by the love and respect we show one another.
How blessed are we that our school community is named Holy Trinity! We give thanks to God for this beautiful name and for the gift of the Holy Trinity as a model for our school that we strive to live by each day... through the way we grow together in Faith, Hope and Love we can be and are a part of God’s love!
COMPASS
As you would be aware, Holy Trinity is a part of the Phase 1 roll out of Compass initiated by the Catholic Education Office. This new school management ecosystem is designed specifically for school and student management, aimed at making life easy, in one connected platform for all stakeholders across our 56 schools.
SEMESTER 1 REPORTS
Reporting - Semester 1 2021
Our teaching team has begun the process of creating each child’s Semester 1 2021 report.
In Semester 1:
For Kindergarten students:
- Achievement in each subject will be reported using a four-point scale (Well Above Expectations, Above Expectations, Meeting Expectations and Working Towards Expectations).
For Year 1 to Year 6 students:
- Academic grades for each subject using a five-point scale from A-E will be reported using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
For all students:
- Strand Achievement will be reported in English, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, and The Arts using a five-point scale (Excellent, High, Sound, Basic, Elementary).
- Engagement with Learning statements, which are taken directly from the Australian Curriculum, will provide specific information about your child’s Critical and Creative Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility, using a three-point scale (Beginning, Developing, Consistently).
- Individual student comments will not be used in the Semester 1 Reports.
LEARNING CONFERENCES
On Monday you would have received notification that learning conference booking system was open. Parents/Carers are now able to book via COMPASS Parent Portal a time for their Parent Teacher Interview (Kindergarten to Year 2) and Three Way Conference (Years 3-6). Please be aware that booking system will close on Wednesday 2nd June at 5pm
Dialogue is an important feature of reporting. The Semester Report in this format encourages parent engagement and conversation about student learning. We want the report to be the entry point for Learning Confernces being held in Week 8, where we can engage in genuine conversation about your child’s strengths, challenges, effort and areas for growth. Below is a brief explanation of what each style of conference will involve.
Three Way Conferences (Year 3-6)
Three way conferences are held before the release of the formal report in Term 2. The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also take ownership of their learning by sharing the process with their parents. The conference involves students demonstrating their understanding through a variety of learning situations and sharing work samples. During preparation for the three way conferences, students identify their strengths and next step learning goals. Time is set aside for the students to familiarise themselves with the format of the conference.
Interviews (Kindergarten - Year 2)
Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews are conducted mid to late first term, to initiate an effective learning partnership between student, teacher and parents/carers. At these interviews a students work habits and initial needs are discussed based on the teacher’s professional recommendations as well as a discussion about the parent’s knowledge of their child and the student’s individual aspirations.
Annual School survey- Tell Them from Me
We are currently inviting teachers, students (Year 4-6) and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the TELL THEM FROM ME (TTFM) Partners in Learning Survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreaciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our committment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Holy Trinity Primary School.
The survey is annoymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The survey is open until Friday 11th June. You will be able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:

Last Friday, we were able to acknowledge our award recipients for the first half of Term 2.

Anxiety requires understanding

The recent rise in childhood and adolescent anxiety and its acceleration during COVID-19 has worried parents and teachers. Many ask how they can assist kids when they become anxious about seemingly routine events such as attending school camps and excursions, tackling difficult subjects, or facing the prolonged absence of a favourite teacher.
Typical responses such as ignoring their worries or encouraging them to ‘get on with it’ are unhelpful. Allowing a child to avoid an activity that makes them anxious is another unhelpful option. Avoidance may help kids feel safe in the short term, but it risks the establishment of a long-term pattern that can be impossible to shift.
Regardless of the source every child and young person needs an adult in their life that understands them when they are anxious. It may make little sense that an activity makes a child anxious, you just need to understand that they are anxious. They need someone to witness their anxiety without dismissing or ignoring their feelings.
Anxious kids frequently look to parents and teachers for reassurance when they feel anxious. This shows in many ways, including kids continually seeking the opinion of others, wanting parents or teachers to make decisions for them, and continually asking for praise. Adults don’t have to fix kids’ problems, but we do have to understand they are anxious.
The use of ‘Ahhhh’ statements to validate how an anxious child is feeling, is a practical way to show that you are trying to understand them. It’s also a great way to help a child develop a more nuanced emotional vocabulary. Here are some examples:
‘Ahhhh, you’re feeling anxious about going to school camp . . .’
‘Ahhhh, you’re having one of those “I might mess it up” thoughts . . .’
Each child’s anxiety is unique. The first and most important response from an adult is to show a child that you ‘get’ that they are anxious. Having someone understand that they are anxious is an enormous relief, particularly if they haven’t been taken seriously in the past. Sitting alongside a child who feels anxious is an underestimated act of compassion that makes a huge difference to their immediate emotional state.
