Welcome Message from the Principal
Give, and you will receive. You will be given much. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over, it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.” [Luke 6:38]
Dear Friends,
Thsi term we have had a major focus on fund raising for our international charity, Evaland Hekima School. Thank you so much for you generous support of this. Below is a letter from our school, giving us details of where our support will be going to thi year.
Hi to our Holy Trinity Friends!
The money fund-raised and provided to Evaland Hekima has gone towards these essential first aid supplies to assist them with the required COVID precautions and with everyday incidents in schools. Without your support none of this would be possible, so THANK YOU!
Warm regards,

Tuck shop news
It has been so wonderful having the tuck shop up and running this Term! There are however, a few important things I would like to empahise; Firstly, thank you so much to Trish Papalloo for all her efforts in setting up the operations of the tuckshop. Trish has worked tirelessly this Term, working most shifts, has developed a volunteer manual and established the daily procedures so the tuck shop service can continue in our school. Thank you Trish very much, from all the children, staff and families. Thank you also to the support and work Jenny Van De Meeberg has also given to ensuring our tuck shop has been again a great service to our community.
Secondly, the food is provided by a third party provider, Merchant's Feast. As part of our arrangement with them, they will make a donation to the school each Term, based on the number of lunch meals we order. This Term, our first with Merchant's Feast, will see over $700 donated. What a fabulous effort!
I would really like to encourage parents to jump into some fun school activities and volunteer for a shift or two in our tuck shop. A shift starts just after 9.00am and finishes around 11.15am, and is lots of fun!! Lunch meals are delivered, with volunteers needed to heat the meals and bag them ready for the lunch break. The tuckshop is open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There is always someone rostered on that has worked the tuckshop before, so you will not be left alone to muddle through! Volunteering once a Term would be a great help, and you are more than welcome to bring your young ones with you. Below is some feedback from current volunteers:
'Oh, it was so easy, and only 2 hours! Sorry I didn't volunteer earlier'.
'Had a great time in the tuckshop, made a new friend with a Mum I hadn't met before.'
'Love seeing the kids, and the manual is easy to follow, happy to do it again'.
If you have a younger child/ren, you are still very welcome to volunteer with them (particularly on a Thursday or Friday as the Music teacher is not in the area then).
I will be sending out some further information next week about how you can sign up for volunteering. I truly hope you consider supporting the tuck shop and the school, it really is very rewarding. Without volunteers, we will need to look at closing the tuck shop again indefinitely.
Reports Semester 1 and Compass Platform Term 3
Speaking of sending information, next Thursday, I willl send correspondence to all families detailing information about Semester 1 reports and access to the compass parent portal to read them. Please note this is the only way you will be able to view your child/ren's reports. Next term we will be sending all correspondence and communication via the Compass portal. This will include links to the newsletter.
Next week on Thursday, we will once again be publishing our "Inspiring Connections" Magazine, which is always a fabulous recap of the incredible learning that has been happening at our school, ELC to Year 6, both in and out of the classrooms this term!
A HUGE thank you to Jenny and the P and F for all their efforts organising this Saturday night's Parents Tasting Night. I know a lot of planning and effort has gone in to this and I am sure it will be a wonderful night for our community. Remember, it is not too late to buy a ticket on Qkr!
I look forward to seeing you many of you on Saturday! Have a wonderful weekend and a peace-filled week ahead with your beautiful families. Stay warm!

Establishing digital boundaries for a good night’s sleep

It’s well established that sleep is vital for children and adolescents’ learning, physical health, mental wellbeing and emotional regulation. Yet, a concerning number of Australian children and adolescents aren’t meeting the national sleep guidelines according to a recent study*.
There are many reasons for young people’s poor sleep habits including school demands, co-curricular and/or work commitments, perceived pressure from parents and educators and consumption of energy drinks. Young people’s digital device habits can have a significant, negative impact on their sleep.
Handheld devices emit blue light which hampers melatonin production. This can result in the delayed onset of sleep and potentially shorten critical phases of the sleep cycle. Research confirms that children who have not yet gone through puberty are particularly vulnerable to blue light exposure in the evening as they have larger pupils, compared to post-puberty adolescents.
Strategies to stop screens from sabotaging your child’s sleep
Parents can have a positive influence on their child and teens’ digital habits and doing so will yield positive results for their child’s sleep and subsequent learning and wellbeing.
Establish a digital bedtime
Kids should switch off digital devices 60 minutes prior to falling asleep. Reinforce this habit by establishing a ‘landing zone’ such as a kitchen bench, or desk in a study or sideboard where digital devices go for charging and storage. Many students report that they ‘need’ to complete homework or submit assignments late at night. Verify the validity of such statements and work in partnership with your child’s school to limit this type of required screen activity at night. Parents need to also be good role models by switching off before bed too.
Tech-free zones
Bedrooms should be tech-free zones so consider buying an alarm clock if your child uses a mobile phone to wake themselves up. Keeping devices out of bedrooms removes the tech-temptation to use them throughout the night, reduces the likelihood that they’ll reach for them upon waking and lessens the chance of cyberbullying incidents. Ensure any devices left in bedrooms are on airplane mode and that the device is away from their line of sight.
Ensure a daily dose of ‘greentime’
Exposure to natural blue light from sources such as the sun is critical for regulating circadian rhythms and promoting sleepiness at night. Ensure your child/teen is exposed to bright, natural, daytime light preferably before midday each day.
Use blue light filters
Most devices include options for ‘night mode’ or ‘dark mode’ that reduce blue light exposure. Dimming the brightness of the screen in the settings or applying a filter on a desktop or laptop also assists.
Do a screen swap before bed
Encourage passive tech activities before bed such as watching TV, listening to an audiobook, music or podcast, or reading on an e-reader.
It can be a challenge navigating digital boundaries with your child or teen particularly when it involves sleep, which is vital for health, wellbeing and learning. Talk to them regularly about the importance of sleep using science and facts to substantiate your claims.
*The Australian Department of Health recommends between 9-11 hours of sleep for children (aged 5-13 years) and between 8-10 hours of sleep for adolescents (aged 14-17 years). A 2019 study published by the Australian Institute of Family Studies found that a quarter of 12-15 year olds were experiencing a concerning lack of sleep and more than half of the 16-17 year olds in the study were not getting the recommended 8-10 hours/night (Source: https://aifs.gov.au/sites/default/files/publication-documents/lsac-asr-2018-chap4-sleep.pdf )

We are delighted to inform you that Holy Trinity will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments again this year. ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with 40 years’ experience in educational assessments.
ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling and Digital Technologies.
Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be eligible for medals and are invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.
The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.
ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.
