Tomorrow as Remembrance Day, we commemorate the end of World War 1 and honour all those who have served in both war and peace keeping missions throughout the world. Our school community will share together a prayer celebration to be led by Year 5 in the ring road. We have also created wreaths and poppies to display under our flagpoles and in our front garden. A special commemoration and thank you to all our current families who have members serving in the military.
From Our School Board Chair, Andrew Peereboom:
Its hard to believe we are already halfway through the final term of 2022! As the year draws to a close, so too does the tenure of several board members. I would like to thank Kathy Barbatano and Lucy Vincent for all of your contributions to the School Board and the broader community over the past years. This will also open up positions on the board, which I would strongly recommend anyone wanting to provide a meaningful involvement to the school community strongly considers. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Cath Day who will take on the position of School Board Chair in 2023 as well as Michelle Cains who has accepted the role of Secretary following Lucy’s departure.
The first half of this term has seen the release of this year’s NAPLAN results which showed some promising results. Our Year 3 results continue to be some of the best (2021 and 2022) within the Archdiocese. With Year 5 Reading and Writing, scored high in the Archdiocese for 2022.
This is a testimony to the commitment of both the students who had not had the opportunity to complete a NAPLAN test in the past, and the teachers who have worked hard to achieve the best results for our children. Although the late receipt of the results does not allow for any lessons learnt to be implemented this year, the 2023 plan to conduct the NAPLAN earlier in the year will allow the teaching staff to review and adjust their planning to reflect the outcomes of these results if required.
The school building project continues to progress and will provide an exciting addition to the school campus to assist students on their learning journey. Unfortunately it has faced further delays due to rain and materials shortages however is now scheduled to welcome staff and students in the second term of 2023.
Andrew
Andrew will also be finishing his role as School Board Chair at the end of this year and I sincerely thank him on behalf of all our community for all he has contributed in this role in 2022.

LEARNING CONFERENCES
In week 8 of this term, we will be holding learning conferences for all students and their parents, before posting Semester 2 Reports in Week 10. Next Monday our learning conference booking system will be open. From this day, Parents/Carers will be able to book via COMPASS Parent Portal a time for their Parent Teacher Interview (Kindergarten to Year 2) and Three Way Conference (Years 3-6). Please be aware that booking system will close on Wednesday 23rd of November at 5pm.
Dialogue is an important feature of reporting. The Semester Report in this format encourages parent engagement and conversation about student learning. We want the report to be the entry point for Learning Conferences being held in Week 8, where we can engage in genuine conversation about your child’s strengths, challenges, effort and areas for growth. Below is a brief explanation of what each style of conference will involve.
Three Way Conferences (Year 3-6)
Three way conferences are held before the release of the formal report in week 10 of Term 4. The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also take ownership of their learning by sharing the process with their parents. The conference involves students demonstrating their understanding through a variety of learning situations and sharing work samples. During preparation for the three way conferences, students identify their strengths and next step learning goals. Time is set aside for the students to familiarise themselves with the format of the conference.
Interviews (Kindergarten - Year 2)
Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews are conducted to continue the effective learning partnership between teacher and parents/carers before the release of the formal report in week 10 of term 4. At these interviews, students work habits and successes are discussed, as well as a discussion about areas of growth based on the teacher’s professional recommendations, leading into the 2023 academic year.
IEU One Hour Strike Action
I have been informed that some IEU members from Holy Trinity will be participating in one hour of protected industrial action in the form of a work stoppage. The IEU has advised that the work stoppage will occur next Thursday 17th between 8:30 and 9:30am As a result of this action, our school may experience staff shortages during this time frame, however we will provide supervision at school until teachers return at 9:30am.
Congratulations to Sideri Pashalidis (Year 4) and Felicity Gribble (Year 2) for both winning gold at the Pan Pacific Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu championship in Melbourne on 29 October 2022. They worked hard to prepare for this international competition and it’s wonderful to see such well deserved success.
Congratulations also to Peyton (Year 3 /4) and her family on the arrival of her beautiful baby brother Ben!
A reminder once again, to keep an eye on the events of each week leading up to Christmas! We are particularly looking forward to celebrating our Kinder and ELC orientations in a couple of weeks!
A HUGE thank you to our community, especially the P and F president and vice, Paul Osborne and Lisa Bauer, who presented our staff with a very generous gift of a new coffee machine. This was in appreciation for our teachers, recognising World Teachers Day recently.
Thank you again also to Rowena Gribble, Lisa Bauer and Michelle and Paul Cains who facilitated a wonderful wine tasting night a couple of weeks ago. Such a fun night for our community, with delicious food, wine tasting and music!
Have a wonderful weekend and a peace-filled week ahead with your beautiful families.
