Holy Trinity 7th Edition of SHINE- Year 6 PYP Exhibition 2022
SENDING HOME INFORMATION AND NEWS ABOUT EDUCATION(SHINE)
Welcome to our seventh edition of SHINE.
Here at Holy Trinity, we are committed to working together in partnership with parents, teachers, and community members, to create an educational experience that fosters, strengthens, and enhances a variety of learning experiences for your child.
Throughout the years gone by we have held numerous Parent Information Sessions. These sessions have been designed to support the journey of parents/ carers as they negotiate the education of their child. Last term, we began sharing significant aspects of learning at Holy Trinity though our SHINE platform fortnightly. This term our SHINE editions will continue to give us opportunity to connect with our parent community; by communicating about learning at school and sharing strategies and suggestions for how parents/carers can further assist their child/ren at home.
We thank you, O God, for the marvellous life to which you have called us as bearers of Your image and likeness.
We thank you, for having called us to lead and serve as members of Christ’s body, for having furnished us with the gifts and power of your Spirit to reach out to one another after Christ’s example.
With joyful trust, we place ourselves in your hands, knowing that you will give us what we need to serve one another and out school communities with reverence and love… to be conduits of your divine mercy.
We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen
This week's edition we would like to share with you our Year 6 Exhibition for 2022 built on the central idea of:
Building an inclusive and peaceful society
What a wonderful inquiry for our students to base their learning on, giving them opportunity to share strong messages round this central idea with our community and the wider world. Exhibition can be likened to a graduation- a graduation of learning. It allows our students to engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry into a personally significant issue or concept from the central idea- this enables them to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own learning and to take action as a result of this learning. It is a culmination of the last 7 years of the Primary Years Program and over the last few months the Holy Trinity staff have watched our Year 6 students inquire, research, collaborate, take risks, challenge their thinking, and time management and reflect on the many facets of unity that can help achieve an inclusive and peaceful society.
Pope Francis says the following in regard to unity:
“To understand one another and to grow in charity and truth, we need to pause, to accept and listen to one another. In this way we already begin to experience unity. Unity grows along the way, it never stands still. Unity happens when we walk together.”
I hope you enjoy walking together with us as we present our Year 6 Exhibition journey- please be inquirers and seek some answers to the many questions we all have in our hearts and minds by listening, questioning, and discovering. Action is about change of heart and mind and our students at the end of this journey have had that change- we hope that their exhibition will help you view the world a little differently too.

Adelaide Cains:
Our Exhibition journey started in Term 3. The transdisciplinary theme for our Exhibition is “Sharing the Planet”. Our central idea is “Building an inclusive and peaceful society”. Our big idea or related concept was “Unity”. To begin our exhibition journey we brainstormed all of the global issues we could think of. We then used the big idea “Unity” and started finding links between the global issue and our central idea. After lots of reflection and collaboration we chose a global issue we are passionate about.
Tim Lutnant:
We then individually wrote our own lines of inquiry. Next we had our provocation week, this was streamlined to our own exhibition theme. We experienced guest speakers in person and online, we also collaborated with our peers and watched videos related to our global issue.
The next part of our exhibition journey was completing the research on our global issue. This was a great learning experience where we gathered lots of information about our global issue. Some of the statistics and data were confronting but there were also some messages of hope and ways we can make a difference.
After we finished our research, we used this information to create a written piece that was a form of action. This was a great opportunity to share our perspective and passion towards our global issue.
Some of the action written pieces included- letters to Mrs Brearley seeking positive change in our school community, Newspaper articles raising awareness and educating our community and Story books for students in the younger years at our school and posters raising awareness.
Adelaide Cains:
We then surveyed our Year 6 peers to create an infographic about our global issue. We also used secondary data on our infographic. We then started our art piece. We were so lucky to have the expertise of Mrs Lategui to help with this process.
Our Dance, Drama and Music performance evolved over 7 weeks. We are very lucky to have the extremely talented Mrs Simpson and Mrs Groom help us create our performance.
Overall, the exhibition journey has been an amazing experience. There have been challenges along the way but we all feel very lucky and privileged to have participated in an event that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
Tim Lutnant:
We would like to thank the Mentors, Parents, community members, Year 6 teachers and especially Mrs Brearley for making our exhibition a life changing experience.
It was fabulous to have our community back onsite and attending the Year 6 Exhibition.
