Dear families and carers,

Tomorrow we will gather to celebrate our grandparents and grandfriends through a special Prayer Celebration, classroom visits and morning tea from 9.15am in the hall. We hope to have lots of our fabulous grandfriends join us tomorrow!

As we come to closer to the end of another fabulous term of teaching and learning we can reflect on the growth our learners have had across the year so far. Last Friday we heard all about the learning in 3 White with a polished presentation at assembly. The students shared a synopsis of their Units of Inquiry across the year and how they have continued to unpack the different elements of PERMAH. They have looked closely at how they can experience and describe a range of Positive Emotions, how they can nurture supportive Relationships with friends and family, and engage in activities that inspire and develop meaning and purpose. The students sang with obvious pride and belief in the words they were singing. It was a pleasure to see how far these students have come in their journey in Year 3W. 

Term 4 Dates 2024

Term 4 commences on Monday October 14 and the term finishes for students on Monday Decemeber 16, with Tuesday Decemeber 17 a pupil free day. Please keep an eye on the calendar and in the newsletter for all the key events happening in Term 4. 

Drop off and pick up

As the term comes to end please continue to keep our students safety at the forefront when dropping off and picking up your children. The afternoons are particularly busy and we ask that if you are using the drive through please don't park and get out of your car, as this slows down the pick up system. 

Hats, hats, hats...

Students will be limited on where they can access play at lunch and recess if they do not have a hat on. As the UV increases all students must be wearing a hat during play times and sport lessons. If your child repeatedly has no hat we will contact you to let you know. It is vital that students have an opportunity to run around and play during break times but we need to ensure sun safety as well. If you do have any school hats at home that don't belong to your family please bring them to school so we can return them to the correct students.

Year 2 UOI

Year 2 have explored the design, make and appraise process in their How the World Works inquiry. They designed musical instruments from recycled materials to experiment with producing sound. It has been an exciting few weeks of planning, creating and reflecting on how they could improve their instruments. They had wonderful support from parent volunteers and staff for the groups. Our orchestra is almost ready for its performance!

School Disco

Next Thursday Septemeber 26 we will be hosting the school disco. Please purchase your tickets on QKR. Students will need to be dropped at the front door of the school and collection is only via the KidsBiz entrance near the canteen.

Year 1 Zoo Excursion

Sophia S - Zoo Recount

On Monday the 16^th of September Year 1 went to the Zoo. We met our parents who volunteered to help our teachers and run groups at the Zoo. First, we went to the Aquarium and met a girl named Andy the Zookeeper. She let us pat a very cute lizard, it felt like diamonds. Then we went to have lunch. After lunch we played on the playground. I liked the flying fox the best. Then we enjoyed having lollipops because it was Johnny’s birthday.  We got back on the bus and went back to school.

 Cooper B – Zoo Recount

On Monday the 16^th of September Year 1 went to the National Zoo at 9.15am. First Year 1 went to the aquarium. I got to pat a lizard, it felt smooth. After that my group started to look at the animals. I got to feed emus and alpacas. Then we had lunch and got to play on the playground. I got on the bus and I got back to school at 140pm for recess.

We have an exciting weekend ahead for our 3 teams in the Tournament of Minds ACT finals, good luck to these teams and I am confident they will represent Holy Trinity with confidence and pride. We also wish our students making their First Eucharist on the weekend all the best. May the grace of this sacrament strengthen your faith and bring you closer to God each day.

Year 1 Youth Ministry Retreat

On Thursday last week, our Youth Minister, Claire Mass and her team of Year 6 Youth Ministers held a ‘Presence of God’ Retreat for our Year 1 classes.

The Retreat is a key component of the Year 1 religious education curriculum with explicit teaching that builds students’ knowledge of God’s presence and action in the lives of individuals and communities, how people live safely and happily in community and loving relationship with God and how people can use God’s gift of freedom to make choices to show respect for the dignity of others. Students were invited to make connections between their own personal experience and ways of living in accordance with God’s plan for creation.

Thank you to Claire & our Year 6 Youth Ministers for providing such a unique and valuable learning experience for our Year 1 students.

Parent Partnership Meetings

Thank you to our ELC teachers and parents for positively engaging in our Parent Partnership meetings last week. These meetings are an important part of our communication approach, sharing with families about their child’s learning and hearing from parents about their observations and thoughts.

School Holiday Program

The Early Learning Centre currently has a small number of casual places available for current ELC students to join us during the upcoming school holidays. Building on our current Unit of Inquiry which is focussing on living things and what they need to survive (and our visit to the National Zoo and Aquarium earlier in the term), we are excited by the possibility of collaboratively creating our very own Holy Trinity Zoo. We are preparing our guiding questions and then it will be over to the children to share ideas, collaborate, imagine, and create!

What does a zoo need? Where can we find more information about ______? How will we decide what should go into our zoo? How will we construct it? What resources will we need to gather? How will we work together to create our zoo?

Todd Woodbridge Tennis

Holy Trinity had an amazing time at the Southside Todd Woodbridge Tennis Tournament, held at Canberra Grammar School on Monday. We sent three teams of Year 3 /4 students, all of who played with enthusiasm, energy, and lots of team spirit. The day was filled with laughter, friendly competition, and some impressive rallies! To top it off, two of our teams came away with first and second place, adding to the excitement. It was a fantastic day for everyone involved, filled with fun, friendship, and memorable moments on the court!

Congratulations to Our ACT Athletics Representatives!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of five of our talented students, Milla G, George L. Emily McC, Ilaira E and Emily G, who represented The South Weston Region and Holy Trinity at the ACT Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. Congratulates to George who came first in both the 70m and 100m spirts. Milla, Emily, Ilaria and Emily all came in the top 10 in their events. This is some impressive results. Well done!

Last week one of our TOMS teams visited Fred Ward Gardens to present their long term Arts Challenge. This particualr Arts team has made it through to the Regional Finals being held this weekend, and the Long Term Challenge they presented that helped them qualify for the Regional Finals was centered around one of the Fred Ward residents. The Arts Long Term Challenge required the teams to present a person's life story using at least 2 different art forms. This team chose to interview a number of residents at Fred Ward Gardens and then they decided to tell John's story.  John lived in counrty NSW as a child, attending a one teacher school and had to walk 4 miles to school each day. Later he became a teacher and then at the age of 24 decided to go as a missionary teacher to Borneo. Just before he left Australia he was told by the Bishop tht the principal of the school had returned to England so he became Principal of the Borneo school at the ripe old age of 24. He stayed there for 15 years, met his wife, who was also a missionary, and finally left Borneo safe in the knowledge that the school was able to be run by local teachers and assistants. On his return to Australia and worked as a school inspector before retiring and eventually moving into Fred Ward Gardens earlier this year. John was thrille to see the dramatisation of his life story.  It is wonderful to see that our connection with Fred Ward Gardens is evolving constantly and that our students are enriched by this connection.
