Dear Families and Carers,

This week we welcomed our Kindergarten and ELC 2025 students to Holy Trinity. It is scary to think how quickly a year goes by, as we look back on the year that’s passed with only half a term left, and forward to the new one racing towards us, we are reminded of the incredible growth that happens when students embrace change. The transition from one year level to the next is not just a shift in academic learning, but also an opportunity for personal and social development. With this in mind, we reflect on the values of the IB Learner Profile and the framework of PERMAH as powerful tools to support our students as they navigate these upcoming transitions.

At the heart of the IB Learner Profile is the idea of developing well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also grow into balanced, caring, and curious people. As students transition to new year levels, we see the qualities of the Learner Profile come to life in meaningful ways.

In addition to the IB Learner Profile, we also focus on developing resilience and well-being through the PERMAH model. This holistic framework for thriving includes elements that can significantly enhance students' ability to cope with the challenges of transitioning between year levels. Every transition is an opportunity for growth. As students take on new challenges, they also develop deeper relationships, cultivate greater resilience, and strengthen their self-awareness. As we begin the preparations for the change to a new year level we will be focusing on using the language of the Learner Profile and PERMAH to suppport our learners. By fostering an environment that nurtures these attributes and principles, we are preparing our students not only for academic success but for success in life. We invite you to join in that conversation when preparing your child for the end of this year and moving through to their new class in 2025. 

Remembrance Day

On Monday morning our Year 5 learners hosted our Remembrance Day Service for ELC-Year 6. They reflected on why we celebrate the sacrifice, and selflessness of our fallen soldiers and we can continue to honor them in our daily actions.

2025 ELC Orientation

This week we welcomed our 2025 ELC children in for an orientation session. It was an exciting, and significant, opportunity for the children to begin forming connections with each other and the space. For our new families, it is a warm welcome to the Holy Trinity community and for families with older siblings, it was a nice welcome back to the ELC. We value connection and the importance of building strong community links. Our orientation sessions proved to be the perfect opportunity for families to feel the important sense of connection.

Stay and Play

Stay and Play is an opportunity for pre-preschoolers and their parents to come together each Wednesday in school term from 9:00am - 10:00am in the ELC Adventure Garden (weather permitting). All families and the broader community are welcome to attend!

Remembrance Prayer Celebration

On Monday we gathered as a whole school community in prayer to commemorate Remembrance Day. On this day, Australians come together to remember the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women who have served and those that have lost their lives while serving Australia and its allies in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. 

Each year, we pause at 11am on the 11th of November. We commemorate on this day as it marks the day that World War I ended in 1918. At the beginning of this war, more than 400,000 Australian men and women enlisted to fight for our country and our allies. By the end of the war, 60,000 of these Australians had lost their lives. 

On this day, we remember these men and women and all Australians who have served our country. We reflect on the price that Australia and countries around the world have paid and the families and loved ones left behind. We also pray for healing and peace; that one day, all peoples will lay down their arms and embrace one another as brothers and sisters in one human family.

A special thank you to our Year 5 students and their teachers, Mrs McCann & Mr Roweth for leading us in prayer.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal

Over the next few weeks students are asked to donate at least one item each towards the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. These items will be combined to fill hampers for families in the Canberra region.

Each year group has been allocated a food type to put in a collection basket that will be in each classroom. These donations will be presented to a St Vincent de Paul representative at our Thanksgiving Mass (Monday, Week 8).

Thank you very much for your generosity to those in need in our community during this Christmas season.

Futsal Championship

What a big weekend for the girls. They played 9 games over 3 days in the Brisbane heat against some high quality teams.

 

The girls made it through to the grand final playing against a competitive Mary McKillop Catholic College from Queensland.

 

It was a tough match with the girls going down 5-2.

 

Congratulation to Emily McC and Aaliyah on their selection in the Allstars team.

 

Big shout out to coach Mark Gaykema for all his efforts and all the parents support.

The team also wore Holy Trinity’s new team jerseys kindly donated by the Community Council.

World Jiu-Jitsu

Last week Felicity in Year 4 travelled to Singapore to compete at the BJJ Roots World Championships. 
After a tough match in her usual weight division where she won Silver, Felicity was able 
to regain composure and come back in a higher weight division and win a Gold medal.  
Well done to Felicity on winning a World Championship, an amazing achievement!

olour Run

Our Year 4 learners have been working closely with the Community Council to plan the Colour Run. This fundraiser will be used to purchase team shirts for our students to wear at gala days and sporting competitions.
