National Reconciliation Week

NRW_Banner.png
Last week, Holy Trinity marked National Reconciliation Week under the theme 'Now More Than Ever'. Reconciliation Week was an opportunity for us to continue to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and explore how we can all contribute to achieving reconciliation in our community and beyond.
During the week, students and staff were able to participate in a range of activities focused on reconciliation and First Nations culture and tradition that were led by our Year 6 Reconciliation Initiatives Leadership Group. These activities included learning Ngunnawal Language, classroom learning activities, lunchtime First Nations games and a school wide collaborative artwork.
To form the artwork, each student in the school and ELC created a handprint that was then decorated with symbols, pictures, texts and patterns that represented what reconciliation meant to them. These handprints came together to form very large Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags. This was complimented by the contribution of origami bogong moths by the origami interests and pursuits group as a significant symbol of Ngunnawal culture. It is now displayed proudly in our corridor near the Year 2 classrooms.

A highlight of the week was the 3 White Reconciliation Liturgy. This was an opportunity to come together as a community to reflect on the past, understand the present, and pray for what the future could be as we walk together towards reconciliation.
We pray for understanding and appreciation of the history and cultures of the First Peoples of this land. Give us courage to face the truth; compassion to share the burden – strength to play our part in the healing – and how to walk forward to a place of justice.
