Children's Week

Our ELC proudly celebrated Children’s Week, joining families and learning communities across Australia in honouring the rights, talents and voices of children. This year’s theme, drawn from Article 42 of the UN Rights of the Child, was “Everyone should know about Children’s Rights.”

This year’s Children’s Week theme, is a wonderful reminder of the importance of honouring the rights of every child every day. All children have the right to education and play, and at Holy Trinity ELC we hold our responsibilities in high regard. We believe that children learn best through a strong intersection between education and play. In these moments, children are seen as capable, curious contributors who can make choices, take risks and experience a true sense of agency. We also value the importance of children feeling a sense of joy, connection and challenge as they explore and imagine; developing the confidence and problem-solving skills that help them thrive.

Throughout the week, our children listened to stories that celebrated fairness, kindness and the importance of being heard. These moments sparked thoughtful conversations and deepened their understanding of personal rights. One of the  favourite books was I am Me, writted by Aunty Sharron mirii Bell and Children's Rights Queansland.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to nurturing a space where every child feels safe, valued, and free to grow. Children’s Week may have ended, but the spirit of advocacy and celebration continues every day at Holy Trinity ELC.

Celebrating Children's Week: Slow Afternoon

We look forward to welcoming ELC families for our Slow Afternoon next Wednesday. It will be an opportunity for families to experience our values in action, alongside thier child. During the afternoon, children and families will be able to enjoy uninterrupted, playful time with each other in a supported space. Together, we will explore, imagine and create using our new collection of loose parts (which has been generously supported by the Holy Trinity Community Council) - materials designed to inspire curiosity, problem-solving and joyful connection.

We thank the ACT Children’s Week Committee for their contribution and financial support of our Children’s Week event.
