Welcome Message from Assistant Principal

Dear Holy Trinity Community,

At the beginning of 2012, the IB PYP (Primary Years Program) as a whole, began a comprehensive review of all aspects of the programme.

The purpose of this extensive review was to critically analyse everything from the PYP's founding principles to the way that the PYP is implemented in the classroom.

The big question framing the review was “How are we making sure the Primary Years Programme (PYP) engages learners of today – and tomorrow?”

The review is now complete and in the Publication and Launch phase. The review process has confirmed that the pedagogical and philosophical concepts underpinning the PYP are as sound—and as relevant—today as they were when the programme first launched in 1997. Informed by the latest research and feedback from our schools, enhancements have been designed to ensure that the PYP evolves to become even better for students, easier for teachers to implement and more flexible for schools.

There are many exciting changes and additions to the “Enhanced PYP”, particularly an increased focus on Learner Agency. Learner agency refers to the level of control, autonomy, and power that a student experiences in an educational situation.

Learner agency can be manifested in the choice of learning environment, subject matter, approach, and/or pace.

The 3 broad areas that stem from agency are the areas of The Learner, Learner and Teaching and The Learning Community.

Some really exciting enhancements include the importance of play, student voice, action and an emphasis on the Early Years as the foundation for all future learning.

The IB have released a collection of resources designed to help school communities learn about the PYP and to become active in our students' education.

Finally, in a continued attempt to strengthen the partnerships to connect learning at home and school,  we are keen to explore new ways of delivering the old ‘parent information nights’. Please click here to complete a simple survey.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our athletics carnival tomorrow. May the sun shine brightly.

Warmest Regards

Katie
