Dear Holy Trinity Community,
Welcome to Sabbath Week. We hope you have managed to find the time to slow down and enjoy some extra time with your family and friends.
This week, the wonderful Year 1 Team lead the staff in prayer focussed on Pope Francis' Gaudete Et Exsultate and the five great expressions of love for God and neighbour.
1. Perseverance, patience and meekness
2. Joy and a sense of humour
3. Boldness and Passion
4. In Community
5. In Constant Prayer
We were encouraged to identify in members of our Holy Trinity community examples of where these five expressions are lived.
Gracious God, as we reflect on holiness, give us new insights into ways of living our lives that lead to a fullness of life. Jesus, you showed us with your words and actions what a holy life looks like. Give each of us the courage to follow your way.
Holy Spirit, flow through us and bring renewal and newness to our faith lives so
that we can grow in holiness and be the people we were created to be.
Amen.
Despite it being Sabbath Week, the daily life of the school continued with much learning, joy, perserverance and passion. A highlight was our Year 5's Mini Exhibition.

How We Express Ourselves
Central Idea - Experience influences self expression and perception
Lines of Inquiry
-
How biases shape perception (Perspective)
-
What influences our self expression (Causation)
-
Why connections vary depending on the audience (Connection)
Student Reflection
We explored these concepts through dance, music, visual art, media art, drama and poetry.
Throughout the unit, we demonstrated Inquiry skills by investigating how bias and perceptions are formed.
We acted with integrity, honesty and responsibility when creating, performing and sharing feedback on creative pieces of work.
We collaborated by sharing about how we express ourselves through the Arts.
We took risks when creating performance based pieces of work.

In this unit we have done many things to express ourselves. We started dancing with Ms Simpson, dance allows you to meditate in motion form. We have explored many different forms of dance, such as Japanese sailor dances and bush dancing, we have been using elastics recently. Elastics allow you to create amazing shapes that you have never seen before, dance allows you to be the centre of your own world and let go of all stress.
Another thing we explored was art. We had art classes with Mrs Lategui once a week where we learnt about all the different aspects of art. From value to contrast we learnt that art is an amazing way to express ourselves even with just a led pencil.
We also have had a guest speaker and journalist, Andrew Probyn come and tell us examples of how to seize the audience's attention. And from that, with those tips we recorded our media arts videos for our mini exhibition. There were many strategies and we included them in our videos. Mini exhibition is just a way for us to show our learning experience throughout this unit, but of course it’s not as big as the year 6’s exhibition. We produced an artwork plus a rationale, two poems, a ballad and an ode and a news report, all based on a human rights issue. We have had lots of fun throughout this unit and overall, it has just been a thrilling experience to us all. We hope you enjoy our mini exhibition.

In this week's newsletter we are sharing the social and emotional learning from ELC-Year 6. This term our focus has been "Relationships and Diversity".
ELC:
The Ground Parrots: We have been building relationships with our school and parish community. We welcomed our buddy class into the ELC. Father John welcomed us into the church.
Black Cockatoos: The children are working with a partner, someone they do not usually work with. They are investigating the differences between plants and their roots. They are making observations to describe snow pea seeds. And they are working in teams to examine the illustrations of Animalia to identify the boy hidden on each page.

Rock Wallabies: Celebrating and sharing as a class. “It’s like one big happy family!” Said Sam

Sharing birthdays and cultural events. (This family shared the Onam celebrations)

Cooperating in groups and working together to build friendships

The Year One students have also continued identifying things in their life they are grateful for

Year Two: The students have been discussing what friendships require to be maintained such as kindness, support, acceptance and respect. They have unpacked how negative words and actions can hurt and making suggestions about how to modify behaviours. The students have also been learning about diversity. The shared learning included the acknowledgment that we are all special and unique but when we work together, we are even better.
Year Three/Four: Girls- The girls have been participating in a program called “Girl Wise”. The program focuses on social and emotional well-being, giving our girls an opportunity to extend their current skills and learn practical ways to combat issues such as: self-esteem, managing their feelings, undoing unhelpful thinking patterns, negotiating friendships, understanding their own strengths and talents while simultaneously building a sense of belonging and care for one another as we celebrate that they are loved and valuable.
Student reflections:
3/4 Green: Evie S- We learnt how to find our own uniqueness, what makes us, us! We have also learnt some skills for making new friends and for managing our emotions. I really enjoy the game where we sit in a circle and swap spots with someone who has something in common with us.
3/4 White: Emily G - New ways to make good friends, and I learnt lots of positive ways to describe people.
3/4 Blue: Indie N- In girl wise we learn how to support with each other when we are feeling upset. We get to talk about our feelings and learn how to cope with it.
3/4 Red: Rachel B-I have learnt about other girls in 3/4 and the difference and similarities we share. I have enjoyed learning what my peers’ strengths are. I think this has made us better friends because of this.
Year Three/Four: Boys- The boys have been participating in a program called “Wise Guys”. The program focuses on issues concerning peer groups, friendship conflicts, feelings, self-esteem concerns, building positive relationships and developing their identity.
Student Reflection:
3/4 Green: Alex T- I have learnt about the importance of uniqueness, and I’ve also learnt about other people’s perspectives of me. I liked when we had a Seesaw task where we needed to write about ourselves.
3/4 White: Roux L - I learnt about the wide range of differences everybody has and that we should treat everyone equally.
3/4 Blue: Angus I - I like how we get to build relationships with all the boys in year 3/4 and learn about each other’s gifts and talents.
3/4 Red: Stevie L- I have learned about different forms of kindness and what a good friend is. I have enjoyed learning that a good friend is honest, kind and caring.
Year Five: The students have been exploring positive relationships and the importance of emotional literacy within these relationships. During their mini exhibition the students had several opporunities to develop respectful realtionships with their peers.
Abbie B: We have learned so much about positive self-esteem and how this helps us build many friendships.
Imogen T: Do not judge other people in life and online, it’s what is on the inside that counts.
Neha J: Love yourself and be proud of who you are.
Gwen O: We have learned lots about emotions and how we can use resilience when we get upset.
Year Six: Boys- The boys have been participating in a program called “Wise Guys”. The program focuses on issues concerning peer pressure, friendship conflicts, bullying, body image, self-esteem, social media and building respectful relationships with girls.
A key part of the Wise Guys program is teaching boys about building positive relationships and treating girls with respect. Here are some student reflections about this:
Ed H: We cannot be rough with girls. We need to treat girls with respect, using kind and caring words. We need to make girls feel comfortable in all situations.
Nick L: We need to remain calm and be resilient. Both boys and girls can be moody at this age, so we need to be mindful of this. We need to share the workload evenly when working in mixed groups.
Alex C: We need to be respectful and remember that some of our jokes are not funny to girls.
Tom B: We need to be mindful of the words we use and the way we speak to girls.
The Year 6 students have also been learning about cyber safety.
Cyber safety Reflections:
Nick L: Think before you post.
Neha J: Stop the chain reaction… do not pass on negative messages
Gwen O: Do not spread rumours or talk about people behind their backs. Do not be a keyboard warrior.
Ed H: Do not post photos without permission.
Abbie B: Do not communicate with someone you have not met face to face.
Tom B: Do not share your password/personal information with others and do not follow fake accounts.
Alex C: Your digital footprint has started… be careful and wise with your online activity.

TOYS
Please remember that students are NOT to bring toys, including Pokemon Card from home to the school. Toys brought along to school can disrupt the learning at school and on occassion break causing distress.
PARKING
Parking continues to be an issue in and around the school. We ask that you continue to only park in designated parking spots and respect our nearby residents.
We thank you for your support on both of these issue.
Book Week at Holy Trinity is back…Yes! And what fun we had.
It all started on Tuesday with Perform Education visiting our school with their show ‘Story Quest’. ELC to Year 2 were involved in the first session and then Year 3 – Year 6 had the afternoon session. Each session went for an hour. The sessions each unpacked three of the books nominated in the 2022 shortlist. The show was interactive and involved much singing, dancing and participation. The theme running through the performance was look, listen, and respect the land that we are on, that different is wonderful and to stop being in such a rush to get to happily ever after.

On Thursday we continued the celebrations with our first ever ‘Outdoor Book Week Parade’. It was fabulous, the parents were back, the outfits were incredible, and the parading was impressive.
The outdoor parade was actually perfect as parents could easily scoot back to work and we could all easily fit on the blacktop. We were then all able to head to the hall to announce the winning books, watch some Book Week iMovie’s by Year 6 and take 1000 more photos. Many bookmarks and stickers were given out and much laughter was had.

To conclude the day, we met in the hall where the children got to watch the award winning and cost-free performance by the staff, entitled ‘Wittle Wed Widding Hood goes to Gwandmas’ – it was hysterical. There was Tai Kwon Do fighting, wolf chasing, bus trips, shopping mall scenes and some very big feet on display. The staff are always a bit hesitant to be involved in the Book Week Staff Play but gosh they love it when I say ‘action’.
Last but not least, during Book Week a number of classes participated in a range of livestreamed author talks, provided by Dart Learning. They were fabulous and well received. Sessions were presented by award winning authors – Sue degennaro (We’re Stuck), Yvette Poshoglian (Dear Gretta) and Gabriel Evans (Norton and the Bear). Other sessions included unpacking a book entitled ‘Dancing with Memories’ that addressed dementia and finally there was an adventure writing session.
Congratulations to the below authors and illustrators on being selected as the winner for their category in the 2022 CBCA Book Of the Year Award.

Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a problem-solving program for teams of students who work together to solve a demanding, open-ended challenge. We had three teams represent Holy Trinity on the weekend in Tournament of Minds. The challenge involved students developing diverse skills, time management skills as well as working collaboratively with their teammates within a particular time frame. All the students did particularly well, and we were proud of them. The three teams did a wonderful job representing our school at the ANU. They were up against many Canberra schools and two of the teams were chosen to compete in the Finals on the 10th of September. These teams will be competing again in another challenge to see who from ACT will be in the International Finals on the 14th - 15th of October.

Father's Day stall is happening on Friday 2nd September
The Holy Trinity Fathers' Day stall will be held this year on Friday 2nd September. For those not familiar with the stall the idea is that each child gets to ‘buy’ a gift for their dad.
To make things easier for families this year, the P&F will procure all the gifts for the stall. We ask you to contribute $5 per child via Qkr which goes towards the cost of the gifts and a donation to the L'Archce Foundation. Every year the Father's Day stall donates all profits to this terrific local charity, who provide people with intellectual disabilities the support they need to lead fulfilling and empowered lives.
Payment for the Father's Day stall is in the School Events menu on Qkr in the Holy Trinity P&F section.
We understand some families in our community might be experiencing financial hardship and we want to assure those families that all children will be invited to participate in the Father’s Day stall irrespective of payment. No child will be excluded.
If you are in a position to donate a ‘gift’ to support a less fortunate family in our community, we would be thrilled - it’s as easy as making an additional contribution via Qkr.
HELPER REQUIRED:
On Thursday 25th August, there will be a 'wrap and wine' evening in the school hall commencing at 7.15pm. Also, on the day, Friday 2nd September, we require a number of Mother helpers to assist with the stall between 8.30am – 11.00am.
To volunteer, please click here and complete the form which will be sent through to Lisa Bauer.
This term we are pleased to welcome back the school disco. Students will be excited to dust off their dancing shoes for the evening of 8 September 2022 and are encouraged to dress in 80’s theme.
The disco is being held in the school hall with drop off and pick-up via the kitchen garden. Two disco session are being held with students from ELC - Year 2 from 5pm-6:15pm and Year 3-6 6:30pm-8pm.
Student will be provided with a BBQ dinner, drink, glow stick and given a treat at the end the evening. Tickets can be purchased via Qkr! under the Holy Trinity P&F tab and sales will close Tuesday 6 September 2022.
During the disco, parents are invited to gather at the Parish Centre for cheese and wine with a gold coin donation at the door.
The disco is brought to you by KidsBiz and the school’s Parents and Friends committee. We welcome students and parents to join us for these wonderful, social and fun events.
