As we embark on this Lenten journey, let us embrace the invitation to focus on prayer, fasting, and serving others. Let us seek to deepen our relationship with God through heartfelt prayer, fasting from those things that distract us from God's presence, and reaching out to those in need with acts of love and compassion.
In the midst of our busy lives, Ash Wednesday invites us to pause, to turn inward, and to reorient our hearts toward God. It is a time to acknowledge our mistakes, seek forgiveness, and commit ourselves to lives of service.
Last Friday an announcement has been made that there will be a new direction in governance for Catholic Education within the Archdiocese. A link to the announcement is below for your information:

It is intended that very little will change within schools as a result of this governance change. Further updates will be provided as the initiative progresses.
On Monday night we held our first P and F meeting, including our AGM for 2024. The Holy Trinity Parents and Friends Association (P&F) is the key parent group in the School. It provides a forum for parents to:
- Work closely with the Principal and staff
- Support the School Board and its priorities
- Raise money for resources and collaborate with the School Board in determining the priorities for the disbursement of P&F funds
- Provide student services (e.g. uniform shop, canteen)
- Provide support for school programs (e.g. literacy programs, working bees)
- Provide opportunities for social interaction and for parents to form supportive networks
Holy Trinity has a long and well-regarded sense of belonging and community. It is for this reason that many families choose to enrol their children at the school.The Holy Trinity Parents and Friends Association (P&F) has existed for over 30 years, relying on the skills, time and goodwill of parent volunteers to not only administer the governance of the Association, but also to reflect the culture and identity of the school.
On Monday night we thanked and farewelled Josie as our current president of the P and F- many of you would know that Josie and her family are moving soon on a posting to the United States. Words cannot express enough my gratitude for all Josie has given to our community, especially in her role as president. We wish her, Tim and their beautiful girls a wonderful trip and experience overseas. A huge thank you to Courtney Cooke, who has accepted the President's position and to Steph McNulty who has accepted the Vice-president role. Below in our P and F News there are some other important roles that we need some volunteers for. I please encourage you to read this and to contact the P and F if you are interested or would like more clarification, thank you.
At the P and F meeting we also decided to postpone our Welcome BBQ as we currently do not have access to our oval. This community event is now postponed until March 22nd, when we will have our oval ready and our class coordinators allocated, to be able to contact families about this event. Our P and F will also be hosting a sausage sizzle for families at this community event.
This Sunday at our 9:30am Parish Mass our staff will be commissioned, along with the staff of our other Parish school, St Peter's and Paul, with Fr John.

Ash Wednesday and Caritas
This week, the season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2024 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today impacts the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion. Each family can send coins in to put in the class Project Compassion box, receive a Project Compassion box and/or a set of envelopes for donations at mass or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion
Opening School Mass
Last Friday we gathered as a school community to celebrate the beginning of the 2024 school year. We came together, asking God to bless our school community as we began another year growing in faith, hope and love.
Our school’s spiritual theme for this year is ‘Come, Holy Spirit’. Our theme provides us with an opportunity to learn about and develop our relationship with the Holy Spirit – the divine source of inspiration, guidance, and strength.
We also welcomed our Year 6 families, as our Year 6 leaders received their leadership badges. We asked God’s blessing on our new school leaders, praying that they will lead us with strong, empathetic, generous, and loving hearts.
Thank you Father John for leading our school in a beautiful Mass and to our Year 6 teachers for their on going support and guidance of our Year 6 leaders for 2024.
Sacrament of Reconciliation

Parent Sacramental Learning Opportunity
A reminder to our parents of students in Year 3 or above who are making their First Reconciliation this year, that there is an opportunity, next Tuesday night at 6pm, to learn more about the Sacrament that your child will be receiving this year. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the two sacraments of healing, and therefore it is helpful if there is a good grounding and understanding of the sacrament. I encourage all parents to attend. A link will be sent to all families who are registered tomorrow.

Hello everyone and welcome to Week 3!
As part of our PYP unit ‘Who Are We’ the classes have been exploring the concepts of Perspective and Change. To introduce these concepts and build their sense of belonging, the children have been proudly sharing their All About Me posters. Thank you to all the wonderful families who helped and supported their child in the creation of these beautiful posters.
Don’t forget our Stay N Play begins on the 28th of February for those families in our ELC with younger children. Stay and have a cuppa while meeting other families in our centre.

The P&F is a group of parents, carers and friends who support the school through fundraising, uniform, canteen and other activities. In 2023, we organised a number of fun events including Special Tuckshop Days, Trivia Night, Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, the annual Kids Disco, working bees, and the Fete. The funds raised have helped the school revamp the oval and will also contribute to the new playground. At the beginning of each year, the P&F holds an AGM to appoint individuals to Executive Office and Coordinator roles. At our AGM on Monday, the P&F elected:

Uniform Shop |

The Uniform Shop is open on Tuesday mornings in the odd weeks of school term from 8:30am to 9:00 am. If you are unable to attend the Uniform Shop in person, please place an order through Qkr! App by 2pm the previous Friday. Uniform orders will be delivered to your child’s class on the following Tuesday. Please see below table for order cut off and delivery dates.

- Don’t forget that Scholastic Book Club, Issue One - CLOSES next Monday, 19th
- A second call out for parent volunteers to act as “Library Book Coverers” for 2024 - If you have a spare hour or two, I will send home a bag of 10 books, per volunteer, per term. It’s not a hard job and I try to match the books to your family. If you feel up to the challenge, please email me at mertz@cg.catholic.edu.au or send a note via your child.

Anxiety is a part of life. Every time we push against our own boundaries and try something new, there’s going to be anxiety in there somewhere. It’s healthy and normal and it lets us know that brave behaviour is needed. For our children to be completely rid of any anxiety, they would have to live well within their comfort zones. As cosy and as wanted as this might be, they also need to grow and push against their boundaries from time to time, so those boundaries don’t tighten around them.
Children will always look through your lens, and when they see the pictures of themselves that you see, as someone who is compassionate, resilient, strong and brave and able to walk through fearful, anxious times with courage, resilience and strength, this is what they will see in themselves. On Wednesday students in Years 3-6 began Golf Clinics. This week, students worked on the skills of putting and chipping. Students were very excited to try a skill that they have not yet tried at school. This clinic is being run by Damon and Nicole Welsford from the Royal Canberra Golf Club. Clinics will be running for the next 4 weeks.
A reminder that our Swimming Carnival will come around quickly. If you are still yet to return your childs swim sign up sheet, plese return this asap.

Last Wednesday ACT Junior Rugby Union Clinic saw Ronnie from the Brumbies development team and Super Rugby Women’s Player Gabby Peterson running a rugby union clinic for Years 3-5 on behalf of Easts Junior Rugby Club at Holy Trinity.
It was a great introduction to rugby union offering a skills-based games that was fun and inclusive. If your child is keen to play, ACT Rugby will be hosting a come and try day on Saturday 9 March 2024 at Griffith Oval, 9am-1pm.
Otherwise, your local Curtin team is Easts Junior Rugby Club, training on Wednesday at North Curtin Oval from Term 2. Easts need boys and girls to fill teams from U8-U13, playing Saturday mornings during Terms 2 & 3.
