Dear Families and Carers,
Next Monday May 27, we will be celebrating Reconciliation Day as part of National Reconciliation Week. At Holy Trinity we held our Reconciliation Action Plan meeting this afternoon, with members of the working group coming together to set goals and priorities for our school community. We are committed to ensuring all students will experience explicit opportunities to learn from First Nations people and prioritise embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures across the PYP Units of Inquiry.
Reconciliation Day and Reconciliation Week are an opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and our national story. We are looking forward to the events our Year 6 Reconciliation group have planned for the school across next week.
The beautiful art work above was created by proud Ngunnawal and Ngambri man, Budda Connors, for the St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn, this piece is titled 'Caring for Others'. As described by Budda: The large circle represents both Ngambri and Ngunnawal peoples. The smaller circles represent our neighbouring nations: Wiradjuri, Yuin, Ngarigo, Gundungurra and Walgalu. The dotted painting that looks like mountains and represents the Brindabellas. The background is the ancestors of our neighbouring nations, and the lines represent the Murrumbidgee.
Year 2 Assembly
Year 2 Red shared their learning at assembly last Friday. The learners presented their Sharing the Planet inquiry, where they inquired into
- Earth's place in the solar system
- The impact of human activity
- Our responsibility to be stewards of Earth’s resources
The students were able to share ways we can all be stewards of the earth, protecting our resources and taking care of the environment. Their storytelling of "Alone" was both entertaining and informative.
Cool Kids
Holy Trinity will be running the “Cool Kids” support program again this year for students in Year 2 to Year 6. The Cool Kids Program is a world renowned cognitive behavioural therapy program developed to teach children and parents skills that address anxiety.
The program helps children to recognise emotions such as fear, stress and anxiety. As well as helping them to challenge beliefs associated with feeling nervous and encourages them to gradually engage in fearful activities in more positive ways.
There is an additional component for parents that informs them of these principles and teaches alternate ways of interacting with your child.
The program will run for 9 weeks (1-hour session per week) and will take place during school time. There will be around 6 - 8 students in a group.
If you think your child would benefit from this program, please email Emily Capper Emily.capper@cg.catholic.edu.au We have also asked teachers to nominate students in their class, who they think would benefit from the program.
Special Tuckshop Day
Our wonderful Community Council have planned a Special Tuckshop Day on Tuesday June 4. Please order your delicious lunch on QKR.
Year 6 Initiatives
As part of the Year 6 Inititaives, the Sustainability Group have sourced 2 Purple bins for recycling bottles and cans. The group have spoken to our students about placing any cans, bottles or juice poppers that have the recycling logo into the purple bins. Each week the group will empty the bins and we will be depositing the cans to raise funds to continue sustainable projects around our school. If you would like to collect cans from home please send them into school in a garbage bag for our bins.
Have a fabulous long weekend.
